Jesus Is...

Jesus Is…
Day 1

Sermon Sentence:  When you understand who Jesus truly is, you understand why He claimed to be the only way to the Father.

Memory Verse:  “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”  Hebrews 3:12

Read Hebrews 1:1-4

The word, “better” appears in the book of Hebrews thirteen times. While most agree that the author of Hebrews is uncertain, it is clear that the author had a purpose in mind--to show the excellence of Jesus. The sermon this week was an introduction to the deep teachings of this incredible book. We will look this week at some of the teachings which express the greatness of Jesus.

  • Jesus is greater than the prophets
  • Jesus is the heir of all things
  • Jesus is the creator

A review of the old testament quickly reminds us of how much God used prophets to do very important work. In what ways do you see Jesus greater than the prophets?

Read Romans 8:14-17
What is the most exciting of being a joint heir with Christ to you?

Read John 1:1-3
Jesus spoke all that we can see and all that we cannot into existence. Take a moment to reflect on that fact and write a few thoughts below.

Day 2

Sermon Sentence:  When you understand who Jesus truly is, you understand why He claimed to be the only way to the Father.

Memory Verse:  “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”  Hebrews 3:12

Jesus is...the radiance of the glory of God.

Jesus was and is more than our redeemer. He is God incarnate and the very radiance or brightness of who God is. It can be challenging to wrap our minds around Jesus being 100% God and 100% man at the same time. The bible does give us some insight to help know about Him and to KNOW Him.

Read John 1:14

John 1:1 identified Jesus as “the Word.” John 1:14 states that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. In what way did Jeus become flesh and live among humanity?

How did the birth and life of Jesus show the glory of the father?

One of the most important aspects of Christian theology is the deity of Christ. In other words, Jesus is God. Jesus isn’t simply a better god...He is God. Write some thoughts below about the importance of the deity of Jesus.

Day 3

Sermon Sentence:  When you understand who Jesus truly is, you understand why He claimed to be the only way to the Father.

Memory Verse:  “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”  Hebrews 3:12

We have discussed the fact that Jesus is better than the prophets, heir of all things, and he is the creator. Yesterday we looked at Jesus being the radiance of God’s glory. Today we are considering how Jesus is the exact imprint of God’s nature.

Read Hebrews 1:1-4

Read John 14:9-10

Hebrews 1:13 describes Jesus as being the exact imprint of God’s nature. John 14:9-10 records a conversation between Jesus and Philip regarding a statement made by Jesus to Philip. In John 14:8, Philip had asked Jesus to show the disciples the Father. Jesus informed Philip that those who had seen Him, had seen the Father. How could this be possible?

Jesus was God in human flesh so He could redeem fallen man. His perfect life coupled with His death on the cross provided salvation to those who turn to Him in saving faith.
Read John 3:16

What does this verse tell us about God's nature concerning His love for us?

Day 4

Sermon Sentence:  When you understand who Jesus truly is, you understand why He claimed to be the only way to the Father.

Memory Verse:  “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”  Hebrews 3:12

Today we will be looking at how Jesus upholds the universe by the word of His power. This statement can be applied to no one else who has walked on this earth. Take a few minutes to read the creation account in Genesis 1. When Jesus spoke something into existence, it was. What amazing power in His spoken words.

The complexity of life defies human reason. In fact, life is so complex that there are many who believe it is much too complex to believe that any entity would be intelligent enough to create such complexity. Those of a Christian worldview would argue that it is much too complex to believe that it all came about by chance.

What is the significance of believing Jesus created the universe. (Read John 1:1-5)

Since Jesus created all things, what does this say about who He is?

If he created all things, is He able to uphold the universe?

Day 5

Sermon Sentence:  When you understand who Jesus truly is, you understand why He claimed to be the only way to the Father.

Memory Verse:  “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”  Hebrews 3:12

The book of Hebrews takes the reader into some deep theological teachings. The writer’s purpose was to point to the superiority of Jesus to assist the readers of the book to understand their need for Jesus rather than holding on the law given through Moses.

Today we are going to consider the fact that Jesus is...sitting down.

Read Hebrews 1:3

There is an incredible amount of importance in the statement, “After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…”

How did Jesus make purification for our sins?

Read John 19:16-30
The Greek usage that is interpreted, “it is finished” allows the reader to understand the work on the cross was finished with the death of Jesus, but with ongoing results. This is important because you and I continue to reap the benefit of salvation 2000 years later.

Jesus sitting down at the right hand of Majesty after the work of purification was completed declared Jesus’ redemptive work to be completed. He is now sitting on the throne thatalways has been and always will be HIs!

Take some time in prayer to recognize Jesus is, was, and will forever be God!
